Following a large number of highly publicised of cases of lost data in the media in recent months, Westcom Networks has responded with the introduction of hard disk encryption software.
Encrypting either the hard drive of a laptop, or any other removable media – such as USB sticks, should at this point be towards the top of every companies to-do list.
Recent losses of data by M&S, Nationwide Building Society and even Revenue & Customs have attracted negative PR and record fines. In the case of M&S, the Information Commissioner's Office ordered that every one of their laptops be encrypted by the end of April 2008.
